Every new SPILL parody starts with real reporting. The sources are the launchpad, not the punchline.
DISCOVERY
SPILL monitors reporting about American politics and looks for current events with enough factual grounding and comedic potential to support an original parody. A story can involve the White House, Congress, campaigns, elections, courts, governors, agencies, political parties or other major political players and institutions.
VERIFICATION BEFORE COMEDY
For new automated parody, SPILL looks for corroborating reporting before spending editorial generation on a story. Source links identify the reporting used to establish the real event. A linked source is not responsible for, and should not be read as endorsing, SPILL’s fictional escalation.
THE ACTUAL NEWS
At the end of a new parody story, The Actual News points readers back to the factual event that inspired it. This is the clean line between what happened and what SPILL made up for comedic effect.
SELECTION
SPILL does not promise a fixed number of stories. Weak premises can be rejected even when the underlying event is legitimate news. Publishing less is preferable to manufacturing filler.
