POLITICAL PARODYREAL EVENT. FICTIONAL ESCALATION.

This is a work of fiction and parody.

Bruce Blakeman’s campaign announced Friday that it had retained three theologians, a crisis-communications pastor and one former college debate captain to interpret Nicki Minaj’s endorsement of the Republican gubernatorial candidate before it reached undecided voters in a condition too spiritually concentrated for civilian use.

The emergency review began after Minaj denounced Gov. Kathy Hochul as an “evil woman” and invoked consequences of a distinctly celestial nature. Campaign staff initially celebrated what they called “a major cultural validation event,” before realizing no one in the building could explain what, specifically, the candidate had been validated to do.

“We know how to process an endorsement,” said a fictional senior Blakeman adviser, seated beneath a whiteboard reading LOWER TAXES / PUBLIC SAFETY / ETERNAL JUDGMENT? “Usually somebody says they like your record, perhaps wears a hat, and we cut it into a thirty-second spot. This came in with prophecies. It had weather systems in it.”

The campaign’s first problem was classification. A conventional opposition attack can be assigned to a policy vertical: transportation, education, ethics, the usual buffet. But the Minaj intervention arrived with the broad, difficult-to-poll allegation of metaphysical corruption. By lunchtime, the research department had created a new folder labeled “EVIL, IF ACTIONABLE.”

That folder quickly became the most visited document in New York politics.

One theologian, brought in from a seminary after the campaign learned its own faith outreach director had only taken a religion class called Leadership Lessons From Gladiator, reportedly advised caution. “The phrase ‘God’s wrath’ has historically been difficult to localize by congressional district,” he said. “It does not always test cleanly with homeowners concerned about utility bills.”

The warning forced the campaign into a delicate strategic exercise. Blakeman’s media team spent much of Thursday trying to preserve the endorsement’s intensity while reducing its theological radius. An early television concept showed storm clouds over Albany and a narrator promising that Bruce Blakeman would “restore accountability before the seventh trumpet.” It was rejected after focus-group participants asked whether the candidate supported congestion pricing.

“Nobody said no,” one consultant said. “They simply wanted to know if there would be tolls in the Book of Revelation.”

Then came the second, worse problem: if Hochul had been accused of evil, what exactly was Blakeman being endorsed as? The campaign’s first answer, “the opposite of evil,” was withdrawn after lawyers noted that it sounded less like a gubernatorial platform than a candle-shop slogan.

Aides drafted a more disciplined formulation: Blakeman would offer “competent earthly administration during an era of unusually heightened moral vibration.” The candidate reportedly read it once, asked whether it meant he had to speak Latin at the next debate, and went back to shaking hands.

By evening, the theologians had produced a 46-page assessment concluding that the endorsement was “high in conviction, low in municipal specificity.” It recommended that the campaign avoid claiming divine authority, avoid denying divine authority, and avoid any phrase suggesting that the governor’s office could issue permits for the Apocalypse.

This created an unforeseen obstacle for the campaign’s digital operation, which had already designed several ads featuring a giant golden scale descending over the state Capitol. The scale was removed after someone pointed out it made Blakeman look like he was running for governor of a very judgmental casino.

Staffers eventually settled on a modest social-media graphic: Blakeman smiling beside the phrase “A Different Direction for New York.” The theologians approved it after determining that, while vague, it did not commit the campaign to overthrowing darkness by executive order.

The endorsement team is now preparing for the possibility that more celebrities may enter the race with declarations from increasingly distant planes of reality. A new intake form asks supporters to identify whether their praise is based on policy, personal friendship, generalized disgust, or direct communication with the cosmos.

The final invoice from the theology panel was reportedly submitted to the campaign under the category “consulting services rendered unto Caesar.”
