POLITICAL PARODYREAL EVENT. FICTIONAL ESCALATION.

This is parody inspired by a real event.

With Brazil’s presidential contest tightening around Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro, the Bolsonaro campaign has unveiled its most practical answer yet to the awkward matter of succession: the Bolsonaro Unlimited Family Plan, a premium political package allowing one right-wing movement to remain under the same primary account holder no matter which relative is currently holding the microphone.

“Brazil deserves continuity without the inconvenience of continuity,” said a fictional campaign representative, standing beside a giant phone-store poster of Flávio Bolsonaro wearing a suit, a sash and the faint expression of a man who has just learned his data is being shared with the entire family. “Senator Bolsonaro is not replacing anyone. He is simply an authorized user with full access to Dad’s contacts, slogans and cloud-based grievances.”

The campaign said the plan was designed for voters who want the emotional experience of Jair Bolsonaro without having to confront the increasingly technical question of why the person onstage has a different face, a different voice and occasionally a sentence that appears to have been drafted after 2019.

Under the plan, Flávio may make unlimited calls to the movement’s core supporters, retain nationwide roaming privileges and access the family’s legacy archive, including patriotic motorcades, anti-establishment fury and 14,000 photos of someone pointing at a barbecue. Any statement judged insufficiently recognizable will immediately generate a pop-up notification reading: “Did you mean Jair?”

The first complication emerged during a campaign stop in São Paulo, when Flávio attempted to describe himself as a “new generation” of conservative leadership. The phrase reportedly caused every supporter’s phone to vibrate with an emergency message from Bolsonaro Unlimited: YOUR PRIMARY USER HAS DETECTED AN UNAUTHORIZED UPDATE.

Within minutes, campaign aides ushered him behind a curtain for what they described as a routine compatibility check. He returned to the stage 11 minutes later, declaring that Brazil needed “new energy, but only in the traditional sense.” The crowd applauded with the relieved warmth of people whose cable provider has restored a familiar channel.

Privately, however, the campaign faces a more delicate problem. A family plan works best when nobody asks who is actually paying the bill.

Flávio’s central challenge is to inherit the loyalties, outrage and national recognition attached to the Bolsonaro name while persuading voters he is not merely a Wi-Fi extender placed in a different room of the same house. The campaign’s internal polling reportedly found that supporters loved the idea of a successor right up until they heard the word “successor,” which many interpreted as evidence that somebody had quietly changed the password.

To resolve that concern, the campaign announced a new feature: Bolsonaro Me, a personalization setting through which voters may choose how much Flávio they are prepared to receive. The “Classic” setting provides familiar rhetoric and frequent references to the father. “Balanced” allows brief intervals of son-specific policy language. “Independent Mode” is technically available but can only be activated after answering three security questions about the 2022 election, family loyalty and whether the user agrees to receive promotional texts at all hours of the night.

That last option has not been popular. At one rally, a voter asked whether Flávio could simply run as himself. The campaign’s customer-service chatbot paused for several seconds, displayed a spinning green-and-yellow wheel, then asked whether the caller would like to speak with Jair.

The real danger, strategists concede, is not that Flávio seems too much like his father. It is that the movement has spent years training its followers to treat any variation from Jair Bolsonaro as a billing error. One senior fictional adviser called this “the paradox of brand inheritance”: voters demand the exact same product, then become suspicious when it arrives in a new box.

In response, the campaign has begun advertising Flávio as “the original sequel,” a phrase designed to reassure every faction at once while communicating absolutely nothing that could be held against him later. The first television spot ends with the senator promising Brazil “a future that remembers its login.”

Election experts say the strategy could work if the contest remains close and voters decide that an inherited movement is still a movement, rather than a family group chat that somehow obtained ballot access. For now, Flávio Bolsonaro remains the only presidential candidate whose campaign message comes with rollover minutes and a warning that the account owner may monitor activity.

At polling places, Brazilians will face a simple choice: renew the family plan, or finally press the button marked “manage account.”
