POLITICAL PARODYREAL EVENT. FICTIONAL ESCALATION.

The Trump administration has unveiled a new plan to replace traditional law-school accreditation with a federally supervised escape room the size of a suburban courthouse, where aspiring attorneys must solve a sequence of procedural puzzles before receiving permission to discuss student loans.

The Department of Education said the new system, called JurisPrudence: The Locked Chamber, would eliminate the need for outside gatekeepers by placing all legal education inside one beige, windowless structure near Dulles International Airport. Students enter through a mock metal detector, receive a lanyard reading “PENDING,” and have four years to find the conference room where their degree is believed to be stored.

The first chamber recreates a civil procedure seminar after the projector remote has disappeared. Candidates must establish personal jurisdiction over a janitor’s closet, identify the original copy of the Federal Rules of Evidence, and persuade a motion-activated portrait of a founding father to stop saying, “Have you checked the syllabus?”

Officials said the format will teach practical resilience. “The legal profession is full of locked doors, unclear instructions and someone insisting the form was due yesterday,” according to the program’s 84-page welcome packet, which may only be opened after solving a riddle involving three identical staplers.

The project encountered its first complication when several law-school deans successfully challenged the escape room’s liability waiver, causing the entire facility to enter a 72-hour mediation period. During mediation, students were instructed not to leave the building, not because they were trapped, administrators explained, but because leaving would constitute an unauthorized transfer.

To keep the process moving, the department introduced premium clue packages. For an additional $4,800, candidates may ask a retired judge whether the suspiciously obvious bookshelf is, in fact, a door. A $9,500 “Legacy Advocacy Bundle” includes one ceremonial gavel, priority access to the snack machine, and a handwritten note confirming that every profession is difficult now.

By Friday, the escape room had become so popular with accreditation officials that they were unable to complete their own review meeting after getting locked in the mock appellate chamber. The only available exit required a final determination from the accreditor they had arrived to replace.
