Democrats Make House and Senate Campaigns Share One Emergency Credit Card
The card may be used for any battleground purchase, provided both chambers initial the receipt in blue ink.

Democratic campaign officials have unveiled a new solution to the party’s increasingly tense debate over where to spend its limited election money: one emergency credit card, kept in a locked acrylic box between the House and Senate fundraising offices.
The card, a matte navy corporate Visa with a $47 million limit and an aggressively cheerful chip, will be available to any Democratic campaign operation able to secure signatures from a House strategist, a Senate strategist, a regional consultant and the employee assigned to explain why the expense is not technically “another digital persuasion experiment.”
Under the new protocol, a House committee may check out the card for a competitive district only after agreeing not to describe the Senate’s preferred race as “a vibes-based Kansas situation.” Senate operatives, meanwhile, may use it only after confirming that no House candidate is currently losing by three points to a man whose television advertisements were filmed beside a forklift.
The first dispute arose within minutes of the rollout, when both committees attempted to charge $6.2 million in television advertising at precisely 9:01 a.m. The transaction was declined after the card’s fraud-prevention system flagged “two national Democratic institutions purchasing hope from separate locations” as suspicious activity.
Officials responded by appointing a bipartisan-free mediation team of former campaign managers, each equipped with a color-coded lanyard and a laminated chart explaining the difference between a must-win race, a winnable race and a race that becomes winnable only after someone says “wait, pull up the county map again.”
The group’s first recommendation was to split the card into three smaller cards: one for House races, one for Senate races and one reserved for the increasingly large category of donors who want their money spent “somewhere decisive, but not in a way that produces any emails.” That plan was rejected after the smaller cards began accruing separate annual fees.
To preserve unity, the party has now converted the credit card into a traveling ceremonial object. It will be carried from battleground to battleground in a foam-lined briefcase by a rotating honor guard of junior finance staff, who will present it at rallies, polling briefings and hotel-ballroom war rooms while a consultant reads the current cost-per-persuasible-voter aloud.
The final purchasing authority will belong to whichever committee can produce the most convincing spreadsheet before the card’s billing cycle closes. Until then, it remains displayed beneath a plaque reading: “IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, PLEASE AGREE ON WHAT ONE IS.”
