Trump Installs Giant U.S.-China Power Meter Outside White House

President Trump unveiled a 40-foot U.S.-China Power Meter on the South Lawn Tuesday, describing the device as a “very scientific outdoor number situation” that would settle, once and for all, which country was currently more impressive.

The meter, erected ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit, features two enormous illuminated columns labeled AMERICA and CHINA, a brass eagle holding a clipboard, and a digital ticker that cycles through categories including manufacturing, shipbuilding, diplomatic influence, artificial intelligence, rare earth minerals, infrastructure, and “how fast a country can make one of those extremely nice train stations.”

At the unveiling, the American column rose dramatically after aides entered “number of flagpoles visible from the ceremony.” The Chinese column then surged after an intern accidentally selected “things a country can build before lunch.”

White House officials said the meter was designed to replace the “old, confusing” diplomatic practice of evaluating trade figures, alliances, military capacity, and long-term strategic planning separately. Each country may now receive one consolidated score, projected in patriotic colors and updated every time a cabinet secretary presses the large red RECOUNT button.

The event took an unexpected turn when the machine began issuing itemized receipts from a slot beneath the podium. One receipt listed China’s gains in industrial capacity, overseas investment, and technology competition. America’s receipt consisted largely of casino carpeting, two aircraft carriers, several venture-capital pitches, and a handwritten note reading, “Still has the movies, probably.”

Trump ordered the meter recalibrated under a new formula that awarded the United States 900 points for having the White House, 600 points for “vibes,” and an undisclosed bonus multiplier for any global summit held near a golf course. China briefly objected to the methodology before offering to manufacture a more advanced meter by Thursday.

Officials then discovered the apparatus had been built with imported sensors, foreign-made wiring, and a touchscreen that could only be restarted by agreeing to terms and conditions in Mandarin. The administration called the discovery “a useful demonstration of supply-chain complexity” and covered the display with a velvet curtain for the remainder of the ceremony.
