Trump Opens Sanctions Return Counter for Belarus

President Trump on Wednesday unveiled the Belarus Sanctions Return Counter, a polished walnut service desk installed directly outside the Oval Office, where foreign governments may request store credit for previously imposed U.S. penalties.

The counter opened after Trump’s envoy held new talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko involving prisoner releases and remaining sanctions. Within minutes, Belarusian officials arrived carrying three rolling suitcases of documents, a deli tray, and a fistful of sanctions labels that had been carefully steamed off shipping crates.

The arrangement appeared straightforward until Belarus requested a full refund. Officials said the exchange briefly stalled when Lukashenko’s delegation attempted to redeem twelve loyalty points earned during previous diplomatic thawing periods. The points had expired in 2011, but the delegation argued they should be honored because they had been stored in a “cool, sovereign place.”

Trump then expanded the program into a broader international clearance event. Countries with qualifying disputes were issued orange shopping baskets and directed toward a velvet rope marked EXPRESS LANE FOR STRATEGIC AMBIGUITY. A catering invoice obtained by no one listed “sanctions-adjacent pastries” at $4,800.

The day ended when Belarus reached the front of the line again and was informed that its refund could only be processed onto the original form of payment: a functioning political system.
