A statewide CBS Pittsburgh scoreboard listed wins for Bethlehem Catholic over Delaware Valley, 21-20; Central Bucks West over Easton, 36-7; Dunmore over Wyoming, 42-0; and Wilson over Governor Mifflin, 48-7. The listing also included Southern Lehigh’s 55-0 victory against Quakertown and Greensburg Central Catholic’s 41-0 win over Yough.

In Central Pennsylvania, Hollidaysburg defeated Altoona, 24-7, while State College edged Central York, 35-28, according to the Altoona Mirror’s Week 1 scoreboard. Other area finals included Bishop Guilfoyle over Penns Valley, 46-14, and Moshannon Valley’s 36-35 double-overtime win against Windber.

Sports Illustrated’s Pennsylvania high school coverage said 262 games were scheduled statewide for Friday’s opener. It identified La Salle College against Paramus Catholic of New Jersey, Central Catholic against Bergen Catholic of New Jersey, and Roman Catholic against California’s St. John Bosco among the prominent opening-night matchups.
