Ukrainian authorities said a Russian drone attack on an enterprise in the village of Myla set off a major fire and subsequent detonations, forcing hundreds to evacuate.
At least 27 people were killed after a Russian attack struck an enterprise near Kyiv and was followed by a large fire and detonations, Ukrainian officials said Saturday.
The attack occurred Friday evening, August 28, in the village of Myla in Kyiv region’s Bucha district. Ukraine’s prosecutor general said preliminary information indicated that an unmanned aircraft either fell on or struck the site at about 8:10 p.m. local time. Investigators were still establishing the type of drone and the circumstances of the blast.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a warehouse had been hit before the detonation. He said dozens of people were injured and more than 370 had been evacuated as emergency crews continued working at the scene.
The blast damaged nearby homes and a care facility for older people and people with disabilities, according to Ukrainian authorities. Prosecutors also said they would examine whether explosive materials at the enterprise had been stored legally and whether officials had acted properly.
Russia has carried out repeated drone attacks around Kyiv in recent days. The reported death toll from the Myla strike could change as rescue and investigative work continues.

THE WHOLE STORY
01WHAT HAPPENED
Ukrainian officials said a Russian drone attack struck or fell at an enterprise in Myla, west of Kyiv, on August 28. A fire and subsequent detonations followed, killing at least 27 people, injuring dozens and prompting large-scale evacuations.
02HOW COVERAGE DIFFERS
There is no meaningful divide in the central reporting. Both outlets describe an attack near Kyiv, a warehouse or enterprise fire followed by detonations, and a death toll of at least 27 based on Ukrainian official accounts.
03COMMON GROUND
BBC and CNN both report that Ukrainian authorities linked the fatalities to a Russian drone attack near Kyiv and that the strike was followed by a major explosion and evacuation effort.
04THE DIVIDE
The distinction is one of emphasis rather than political disagreement: BBC's framing gives more prominence to the number of people evacuated, while CNN's headline foregrounds the drone strike, warehouse blast and death toll. The exact cause and circumstances of the subsequent detonations remain under investigation.
