At least 27 people were killed after a Russian attack struck an enterprise near Kyiv and was followed by a large fire and detonations, Ukrainian officials said Saturday.
The attack occurred Friday evening, August 28, in the village of Myla in Kyiv region’s Bucha district. Ukraine’s prosecutor general said preliminary information indicated that an unmanned aircraft either fell on or struck the site at about 8:10 p.m. local time. Investigators were still establishing the type of drone and the circumstances of the blast.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a warehouse had been hit before the detonation. He said dozens of people were injured and more than 370 had been evacuated as emergency crews continued working at the scene.
The blast damaged nearby homes and a care facility for older people and people with disabilities, according to Ukrainian authorities. Prosecutors also said they would examine whether explosive materials at the enterprise had been stored legally and whether officials had acted properly.
Russia has carried out repeated drone attacks around Kyiv in recent days. The reported death toll from the Myla strike could change as rescue and investigative work continues.
