A three-alarm blaze that began at an unoccupied home early Saturday spread to neighboring residences, with no injuries reported.

A three-alarm fire that began at a vacant house in Newark early Saturday spread to neighboring homes and displaced three families, officials said.

The fire started shortly after 4 a.m. on South 19th Street near Clinton Avenue, according to CBS New York. The vacant building partially collapsed as firefighters battled the blaze, ABC7 New York reported.

Newark’s public safety director told CBS that seven adults and four children were displaced. No injuries were reported, and the Red Cross was assisting the affected families.

ABC7 reported that the flames spread to an occupied three-family house and that all occupants got out safely. CBS reported that two adjacent buildings were affected, including a multifamily home.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control after it was elevated to three alarms, though crews remained at the scene to address hot spots. The cause has not been determined and remains under investigation.

Neighbors told both outlets that the vacant property had been a persistent concern and had also caught fire in recent months.
