The Argentina goalkeeper joins Chelsea on a reported three-year contract, becoming the latest player to move between the two Premier League clubs.

Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa, adding an experienced international to their options between the posts.

Sky Sports and The Guardian reported that the 33-year-old has joined for £7.5 million on a three-year contract. Martínez said joining Chelsea was an easy decision for him and his family, adding that he wants to compete for trophies and contribute fully on and off the pitch.

Martínez leaves Villa after six seasons, during which he became Argentina’s first-choice goalkeeper, won the 2022 World Cup and helped Villa lift the Europa League last season. Sky reported that Villa’s signing of Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki helped make a move necessary.

The transfer is also the eighth Chelsea-Villa deal in four years, according to the BBC. It continues an unusually active recent relationship between the clubs in the transfer market.
