The former Tigers ace received a video tribute and a mixed crowd reaction before pitching six strong innings in Los Angeles’ 2-1 win.
Tarik Skubal’s first appearance in Detroit since the Tigers traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers was emotional before it was clinical.
The two-time Cy Young Award winner wiped away tears as the Tigers played a pregame tribute video Friday night at Comerica Park. Skubal, who spent seven seasons with Detroit after being drafted by the club in 2018, was greeted mostly with applause, along with some boos, as he returned in a Dodgers uniform.
Once the game began, Skubal allowed one run on four hits over six innings and struck out seven without issuing a walk. He left with a no-decision after 83 pitches, but Los Angeles went on to win 2-1. Skubal later said the return was difficult because Detroit had been the only major league home he had known.
The Tigers sent Skubal to Los Angeles earlier this month in exchange for outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handers River Ryan and Brady Smith. Friday marked his first game against his former club.

THE WHOLE STORY
01WHAT HAPPENED
Tarik Skubal returned to Comerica Park on August 28, 2026, for the first time since Detroit traded him to the Dodgers. The Tigers honored him with a tribute video, prompting an emotional reaction, and Skubal then threw six one-run innings in a 2-1 Dodgers victory.
02HOW COVERAGE DIFFERS
There is no meaningful factual divide. FOX’s report, published during the game, focuses on the tribute, Skubal’s reaction and the opening inning. The Associated Press’ later account adds Skubal’s postgame comments, his full pitching line and the final result.
03COMMON GROUND
Both reports describe Skubal becoming emotional during the Tigers’ tribute, receiving a largely warm but mixed reaction from fans, and taking the mound in Detroit as a Dodger for the first time.
04THE DIVIDE
None on the core facts; the difference is timing and scope rather than disagreement.
